Glasgow Library of Synthesized Sound is the UK's first electronic music library. We are a non-profit, community-based and artist-led registered Community Interest Company (SC754357).

GLOSS was started by artists/musicians, Lewis and Suzi Cook - who make music together as FREE LOVE amongst other aliases - as an experiment in creating space to learn, discuss, share collaborate, celebrate, meditate, explore, harmonise, contrast and synergise.

Since then we have expanded to work with a growing team of artists, specialists, engineers and musicians from Glasgow and beyond.

We provide affordable and free access to electronic instruments, equipment, space, workshops, education, performances and resources.

Our library consists of gear and equipment that has been generously donated to us or has been offered to us on long-term loan. This includes the Instrument For The People of Glasgow - an instrument and artwork created by Scott Myles made up of donated synthesizer modules from organisations all over the world. We continue to seek donors/loaners who would like to see their instruments being looked after and used by a community.
If you would like to contribute, please get in touch at hello@gloss.scot

Since 2023 we have delivered over 100 free workshops through our ITEM (Introduction To Electronic Music) programme.

These collaborative hands-on group workshops are aimed at two levels: beginner and experienced. ITEM focuses on group learning and provides time in a professional studio to record at the end of the project.
ITEM has received support from Creative Scotland and The National Lottery, Rubadub, Signal Sounds, Instruo, Expert Sleepers, Torso Electronics, Elektron and Ableton

As well as delivering an expanded ITEM project, this year we are also offering Future Sounds of Strathclyde: A series of workshops aimed at 16-25 year-olds who face barriers to making music.

This project will give access and support to young people to develop their own creative ideas with help from a team of musicians and our library of resources.

FSOS has received support from Creative Scotland's Youth Music Initiative, Rubadub and Seabass Vinyl

In 2025 we secured our own premises at 5 Florence Street in Glasgow's Gorbals area. The building is an old Victorian primary school which we share with several other artists and organisations, including The Common Guild

Finding our own space has allowed us to move GLOSS into the next stage of development: offering public access outside of our funded workshops. From late summer 2025, we will offer a limited number of memberships to GLOSS which will grant access to open sessions, residencies, workshops, events, performances, meet-ups and more.

2025 has also seen the beginning of our ongoing partnership with Glasgow School of Art - offering an institutional membership to the School of Innovation and Technology.
